Occupational Health and Safety Policy 

Obligations 

Morcare Services recognises its moral and legal responsibilities to provide a safe and healthy environment for clients, employees, contractors and visitors. This commitment extends to ensuring that the organisation’s operations do not place the local community at risk of injury, illness or property damage. 

Objectives 

Morcare Services will: 

  • establish measurable targets and objectives to ensure continued improvement aimed at elimination of work related injury and illness; 

  • provide safe systems of work; 

  • provide written procedures and instructions to ensure safe systems of work; 

  • ensure compliance with legislative requirements and current industry standards. At all times the Agency will abide by regulations, minimum standards, guidelines and directions of jurisdictional Governments and Public Health Authorities; 

  • ensure that universal OH&S protective measures are maintained for all employees; 

  • adopt a proactive approach to the identification and management of psychosocial risks aligned to industry Codes of Practice; 

  • provide information, instruction, training and supervision to clients, employees, contractors and visitors to ensure their safety; 

  • provide support and assistance to employees; 

  • review the OH&S Policy periodically to ensure it remains relevant and appropriate to the organisation. 

Responsibilities 

Management is responsible for: 

  • involvement in the development, promotion and implementation of health and safety policies and procedures; 

  • ensuring program and work environment risk assessments are conducted as scheduled or in response to incidents, hazard/near miss or issues of concern reports;  

  • training employees in the safe performance of their assigned tasks; 

  • consulting with stakeholders such as funding bodies, clients, family members, administrative and support staff about the outcomes of risk assessments, proposed corrective actions and OH&S initiatives; 

  • providing risk assessment activity reports and responding to OH&S committee members’ concerns and proposed action/s, and; 

  • the provision of resources to meet the health and safety commitment. 

Employees are to: 

  • follow all health and safety policies and procedures, and; 

  • report all known or observed hazards to their immediate supervisor or manager. 

 

Application of this Policy 

This policy is applicable to Morcare Services in all its operations and functions including those situations where employees are required to work in the community and in the client’s home. 

 

Consultation 

The organisation is committed to consultation and cooperation between management and employees. The organisation will consult with elected employee health and safety representatives and employees in any workplace change that will affect the health of any of its employees.
